The platform is currently in development and will be available online shortly.
What is Privata
Privata is a curated marketplace dedicated exclusively to private tours in Italy. Unlike traditional booking platforms that list thousands of experiences without distinction, Privata applies a rigorous editorial selection process: only the operators who consistently deliver exceptional private experiences appear on the platform.
The platform is built around a simple but powerful idea: travellers should not have to spend hours reading hundreds of reviews across multiple websites to find a great private guide. Privata does that work and presents only the result.
Every listing on Privata is earned through performance, not through payment. There are no sponsored placements, no paid positions, no promoted listings. The selection is entirely editorial.
The Problem We Solve
Italy is one of the most visited countries in the world. The demand for high-quality private tour experiences is substantial and growing. The difficulty is not finding a private tour — it is finding a good one.
Major booking platforms such as GetYourGuide and Viator list thousands of operators. Ratings are inflated, reviews are inconsistent across platforms, and the volume of options makes genuine comparison almost impossible for the average traveller. A guide who scores 4.8 on one platform might score 4.1 on another, and neither score alone tells the full story.
Privata solves this by aggregating review data from multiple platforms — TripAdvisor, Google, GetYourGuide, Viator — and applying a consistent scoring methodology across all sources. The result is a reliable, cross-verified signal of quality that no single platform can provide.
The Editorial Model
Privata operates as an editorial curator, not as a booking engine. The platform does not process payments, manage availability, or administer bookings directly. Its role is to identify the best private tour operators in each city and present them with the depth of information a traveller needs to make a confident decision.
Each listing includes an aggregated quality score, a summary of consistent feedback themes drawn from verified reviews, a clear description of what the experience involves, and the practical information required to book with confidence. When a traveller selects a tour, they are directed to established booking platforms where their payment is protected and their reservation is confirmed.
Cities Covered
Privata covers Italy’s most significant destinations for private tour experiences, organised along two geographic axes that together trace the routes most international travellers follow through the country.
Northern Italy — East to West
Turin, Milan, Verona and Venice form the northern axis. This route encompasses Italy’s design and fashion capital, the country’s most celebrated Roman amphitheatre outside of Rome, the Valpolicella and Amarone wine country, and the singular experience of navigating Venice by private boat through canals that have carried commerce and culture for a thousand years.
The Grand Tour — North to South
Verona, Bologna, Florence, Rome and Naples form the vertical axis — the modern equivalent of the Grand Tour that defined European cultural education for three centuries. This route covers the food capital of Italy, the greatest concentration of Renaissance art in the world, two thousand years of Roman history, and the most misunderstood and rewarding city on the Italian peninsula.
Verona sits at the intersection of both axes, making it a natural hub and one of the platform’s strategic focal points. It is also, from a competitive standpoint, significantly under-represented in the existing landscape of travel curation — a position Privata intends to occupy.
Categories of Experience
Privata organises private tours into six experience families, each addressing a distinct traveller motivation.
Private City Tours
Walking tours of city centres, neighbourhoods and historic districts with a dedicated private guide. Available in half-day, full-day and thematic formats tailored to the traveller’s interests and pace.
Private Skip-the-Line and Museum Access
Priority or exclusive access to Italy’s major cultural sites — the Colosseum underground, the Vatican Museums at early morning, the Uffizi with an art historian, the Accademia in Florence. These experiences combine logistical advantage with expert interpretation.
Private Food and Wine Tours
Market visits, tastings, cooking classes and wine experiences with producers and artisans. This category reflects the growing proportion of international travellers who organise their Italy itinerary around food rather than monuments.
Private Day Trips
Full-day excursions from the main cities to the Italian countryside, wine regions and historic towns. Tuscany from Florence, the Amalfi Coast from Naples, the Dolomites from Verona, the Prosecco Hills from Venice. These experiences carry the highest average booking value on the platform.
Private Specialty Tours
Specialist experiences for specific interests — photography tours, family tours designed for younger travellers, architectural tours, heritage and history tours, artisan and crafts visits. Niche in volume but high in engagement and booking conversion.
Private Boat and Water Experiences
Relevant primarily to Venice and the northern lakes. Private boat tours of the Venetian lagoon, the islands of Murano and Burano, and the waters of Lake Como and Lake Garda. This category contains some of the highest-value experiences on the platform.
The Selection Process
Every operator featured on Privata is evaluated against a consistent scoring framework before inclusion. The framework assesses five dimensions.
Aggregated rating (35% of score): The average review score drawn from TripAdvisor, Google, GetYourGuide and Viator, weighted by platform reliability. An operator must maintain a minimum threshold across all active platforms to qualify.
Review volume (25% of score): A high average rating on a small number of reviews is statistically unreliable. Volume is assessed using a logarithmic scale that rewards consistent performance over time.
Cross-platform consistency (20% of score): An operator whose rating varies significantly between platforms signals inconsistency in quality or review management. High consistency is rewarded; significant divergence is penalised.
Qualitative sentiment (15% of score): Analysis of review language to identify recurring strengths — depth of knowledge, adaptability, responsiveness, personal engagement — and recurring weaknesses.
Critical signals (5% deduction): Recent negative reviews, operational complaints, unresolved issues or patterns of declined quality are identified and scored accordingly. Operators with active quality concerns are removed from the platform.
Target Audience
Privata is designed for English-speaking international travellers — primarily from the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia — who are planning a trip to Italy and are seeking private rather than group experiences.
This traveller has typically visited Italy before, or is making a significant first trip and does not want to leave quality to chance. They are booking in advance, travelling as a couple or a small family group, and are prepared to invest in experiences that are genuinely excellent.
The platform does not target budget travellers or backpackers. It targets the traveller for whom Italy is a considered destination — who has read about it, anticipated it, and wants the experience to deliver on that anticipation.
Launching Soon
Privata.tours is currently in its final development phase. The platform will launch with curated selections across Rome, Florence and Verona, with Bologna, Naples, Venice and Milan to follow in subsequent phases.
The initial selection covers the private tour operators who have demonstrated the most consistent quality across all major review platforms in each city. Every operator featured at launch has been individually evaluated and meets the full Privata scoring threshold.
